Is this actually free?
Yes — open source (AGPL-3.0), no subscription. An AI provider for Lucius means paying that provider directly — see Connecting an AI provider for typical cost and capping it. Everything else works with zero AI spend.
Does my data go anywhere?
Not on its own — it lives in one database on your machine. A few things you turn on explicitly do talk out (live prices, chat with an AI provider, any connector) — see How your data is stored.
Can more than one person use the same instance?
Built for one person or household — one password for the instance, not separate accounts. Anyone else with access shares your login.
Can I use it from my phone?
Yes — a responsive web app. There’s also optional iOS Shortcuts for logging a spend the instant you tap to pay, without opening the app (Settings → Developer → iPhone Shortcuts).
What happens if I don’t connect an AI provider?
Accounts, ledger, budgeting, investments, and CSV/OFX/QIF import all still work. You lose chat with Lucius, reading PDF statements, automatic categorization, automations, and cross-session memory. See Connecting an AI provider.
Which browsers are supported?
Any current, evergreen browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
What are Intel, tax reporting, FIRE projections, and bank connectors?
Real, working areas not yet hardened or verified — the project doesn’t hide them, but doesn’t want you trusting their numbers the way you can trust the ledger, budgeting, or investment tracking. Treat one you find as a preview, not a finished feature.
